Getting Back on Track

2023.08.08

We all go through various seasons of our life. Some are more complex than others. And when we get off track, it can really hurt our perception of ourselves. When the world shut down in March 2020 many of us found ourselves lost, struggling to adjust to a way of living that we hadn’t expected.

Now a few years later, our lives have by and large returned to the way they were in the past but many of us are still off course from our goals. How do we get back on track? Here are, three steps we can take to realign our life and start venturing toward where we want to go.

Steps Closed

Reflect and Reassess:

First, take some time to reflect on where you are and what needs to happen to reach your objectives. Once you have visualized what goals you are aiming for, reassess what may have gone wrong in the past that prevented you from attaining them. These self-reflections will help you gain clarity on where you went off course and allow you to make necessary adjustments.

Breakdown and Prioritize:

Now that you are aware of what you are aiming for it’s time to break it down into smaller, more manageable chunks, or milestones. Be realistic about what you can actually accomplish in a given time based on your own situation and life responsibilities.

Create a Routine and Stay Consistent:

Next, take your breakdown and place it on your calendar. Get it on your schedule devoting time to achieving your goals. Consistency is key to follow through. Don’t be afraid to set them aside to reevaluate your schedule. What’s working; what’s not? Readjust your calendar if you find your timeline is too aggressive for the realities of your life. Slow progress little by little is better than no progress at all. One day you’ll be able to look back and be proud of how much you have accomplished.

On our journey, we all will encounter setbacks and detours but we can’t allow it to deter us. If we want to accomplish our goals, we must remain focused, flexible, and perhaps most importantly patient with ourselves. Celebrate your achievements as they come and gather support from your network and seek resources when you need them to help keep yourself accountable. Focus on completing one task at a time, which will give you a sense of accomplishment and motivation to move forward.
