St. Margaret of York
Brand System Development
Role: Brand Development & Brand Steward
When I joined St. Margaret of York, the parish had a logo, letterhead, and business cards, but no cohesive brand system. Existing materials were inconsistent containing remnants of old identities and styles were still in circulation, creating a patchwork of mismatched puzzle pieces. Recognizing the need for a professional and unified visual identity, I took initiative to define and document guidelines covering typography, color, imagery, and layouts. I maintained all ongoing communications while developing the system, ensuring that daily operations were not disrupted while elevating the overall quality and consistency of parish communications.
The brand system was designed with sustainability in mind. For a parish, it’s rare to have someone with formal design training, so the guidelines were made practical and accessible, allowing a non-designer successor to continue using them effectively. The system proved critical during COVID, enabling the parish to pivot quickly and maintain clear, professional communications across multiple platforms. This project reflects my approach as a creative: identifying unspoken needs, building scalable systems within real-world constraints, and ensuring long-term impact that outlives my direct involvement.
